I started another thread a few days ago about medicare, but I thought of another question.

Im going through some medical problems right now, I'm very worried so I hope you guys can bare with me if a few questions regarding beeing sick in Canada comes up. My doctor havent been able to diagnose me yet. Im trying not to worry and google too much about different symtoms and diagnosis, Im going to be going through some different medical examinations to try to find out what it is that Ive got, hopefully its nothing chronic.

If it turns out that Ive got something permanent that I'm gonna have to learn to live with, am I required to tell CIC that I got sick? This all happend after I did my medical for my PR.

Thanks for any help I can get :)

Sorry to hear of your illness. Hopefully you will get better soon.

As for informing CIC... at your landing interview, you will be asked if "you are/feel healthy". If are still sick by then, then you will need to tell them. But, I'm not sure what the impact will be of you tell them you are sick. Maybe they will require you to take another medical?

Thank you for your answer and your kind words.

This is def making me worried, Ive already been approved as a PR (just waiting for my CORP) and now this to worry about aswell. Is there any chance they can change their decission on my PR because of this? I thought that spouses can still be sponsored even with an illness?

Most times at landing they won't even ask about your health. It's assumed if you have a valid medical (which corresponds to the expiry date of your COPR) then you are fine for immigration purposes.

I would only mention something if you think it's a contagious illness (like tuberculosis).

I already know its nothing contagious so thats good atleast. I even know its not even something that would cost the canadian health system a bunch of money for treatments. Its mostly myself it would cost money for needing medicine continuesly.

Even if it did cost lots of money, sponsored spouses are exempt from excessive demand so it wouldn't affect your PR app at all. They are only looking for conditions that are contagious or present a danger to public health.

Is there anything I can do to be prepared for my landing interview incase they do ask ne about my health? I dont wanna have to re do my medical exam :/ If spouses are exempt I dont even understand why they might even ask me re do it...

I've never even heard of them asking about health when landing. They certainly didn't ask my partner any such questions.

If it's not a contagious ccondition that is a threat to public health, it won't make any difference to the app, so I wouldn't bother mentioning it.

Thank you, that does make me feel a little more at ease :) I guess they might ask questions if I have to bring prescription drugs with me, but in that case I guess all I can do is to explain is something that came up almost three months after I did my medical for my application and that its not contagious

They asked my wife this. It is even documented as one of the questions you will be asked on CIC's website:

Interview

When you arrive in Canada, you will have to go through two screening interviews. If all your documents are available and in order, your interviews should be over quickly:

First interview — official documents

An officer from the CBSA will greet you. The officer will ask to see your visa and travel documents. The officer will also check to make sure that you and any family members travelling with you have the proper travel documents. The officer will inquire about your health and will ask you questions similar to those on the immigrant application form.

Be prepared to answer these questions:

Are you traveling with your family?
Have you been convicted of a serious crime in your home country?
How long do you plan to stay in Canada?
How much money do you have with you?
Are you healthy?
Have you been to Canada before? Were you required to leave?

But I agree with the others here that CIC is mostly concerned about people who may be sick with some contagious disease...

Interesting. I wonder how common that particular question is.

But I still don't understand what they will do if they ask me that question and I explain that I have been diagnosed with whatever I may have? Will they send me back home??
