Hello All,

My name is Manish, I have been accepted in University of Guelph, Ontario, CA. I am getting 33,277.57 CAD $ per year and my tuition fees is 19,093 CAD $. Do I still need to show my bank statements (I don't earn), or my sponsor's (my father) bank statement or ANY OTHER PROOF OF FUNDS as such?

Furthermore, I am applying from India(mumbai) for a student permit, do I need to get all the documents NOTARIZED? MY father works in Indian Navy, can he get the documents CTC (certified true copy) from a gazetted officer in the Navy?

Last but not the least, I am applying under the University Category, do I need to pay the first term fees? I have not registered into the University yet, because they require study permit for registration. And, without registration, I cannot pay my first term fees.

Please HELP me guys (especially enfield & tiger, your help would be immensely appreciated here) I am stuck in a pinch, please help me friends.

Thanks,

Manish. :)

NO need to pay before hand... only if you want..

You must show as many proof of financial support as you can... If your father is sponsoring then his money is the only thing that matters.... You need all proof of financial supoprt as you can gather... also you need a notarized letter from him where he commits and agrees to pay for all your expenses during your stay in canada... No need to worry about it... Documents dont need to be notarized unless they are copies, if you submit originals there is no need for that

Other proof of funds (or financial support): TAKEN FROM CIC WEB PAGE are:

You must prove that you can support yourself and the family members who accompany you while you are in Canada. You can prove that you have sufficient funds to support yourself in Canada by showing some of the following:

  • proof of a Canadian bank account in your name if money has been transferred to Canada;
    proof of a student/education loan from a financial institution;
    your bank statements for the past four months;
    a bank draft in convertible currency;
    proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees;
    a letter from the person or institution providing you with money; and
    proof of funding paid from within Canada if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program.

Thanks Wolf and Congratulations on gettin ur visa :)

I am being funded by the university and I have letters from them where they mention that I will be provided with 33,000 CAD $ per year, outta which 19,000$ go for tuition fees and rest will be utilized by me for paying living expenses etc.

I am the only person applying for study permit. So the question is do I still need to show proof of funds as my bank statement or my fathers bank statement. I am asking this because the funding letter from university clearly covers my tuition fees + 10,000 $ + extra expenses. Please let me know.

Thanks

Well you don't really need to show anything else since University is covering tuition + more than 10000 for living expenses... You don't need... But it is okay if you do... I won't be of any harm to you...

You will get your visa for sure since financial support is not an issue...

Just remember to show strong home ties.....

I would share my sop but I don't have it.. Really it was like 40 words long... It was really short... Sop is not a requirement so you could even apply without it

Thanks for your help wolf. really appreciate it man ;D

Also, how do I show strong home ties? Can I mention in the SOP that my family is India and I will come back after my studies ? Also, do I show some property owned by my father or something like that?

Please help me out here :-X

Thanks again.

Well to show home ties...e everything works...

In my case I showed all my parents properties... (4 apartments and 2 cars, plus 1 house in another country which is next to where we live), which also worked as proof of financial support.

Also you could use if you are married or in a common law union or have any child.

Also showing a letter from a possible employer who would be willing to hire you once to get back would be good.

Showing any properties from you or your family.

And yes a strong sop would work fine, but dont be so direct in terms of telling hey I wont stay in Canada and wont stay there illegaly... talk to him about your goals in life once you get back, what can you do in your country with the degree you are gonna obtain once you are back... etc

hope this helps

Thanks Man ! This really helps :)
