Hello!

I immigrated to Canada in 2007. In 2012 my father passed away in my home country, but I didn't go there. Do We have to report to CIC every time we lose family member in our home country?

Now 2014, I'm going to sponsor my husband from my home country. Do I have to put the date of his death on my application?

Thank you

If it asks for questions in regards to your father, then yes you would put deceased and enter the date he passed. You don't have to inform CIC on a regular basis though, no.

As the sponsor you will not have to write the date your father passed, but you will need his birth date and last address.

whenever a form asks for an address for my deceased father, i put DECEASED in all capital letters. If it asks for birth place, then i put the city, country he was born in. I have yet to have an issue with this method with any form of legal documentation. There is a section on one of the forms where you put the date of birth and date of death of family members, so that's where the date is needed.

rhcohen, you didn't include the death certificate of your father, right? i`m in a similar situation and i haven't included any death certificate. as for the forms, i did the same as you.

No, I did not include the death certificate. I wasn't sure if they will ask for one to prove he actually is deceased. i happened to recently find it in my mother's papers, so i have it available if i need to send a copy. I figured since they just use that information for future sponsorship eligibility, they really won't care to ask for it.
