Renting Advice

Hi friends,

I'm going to be moving to Ottawa next week (April 6th). Wondering if anyone has any pro-tips on getting started in Ottawa. We're probably going to get an AirBnB or something to start out but then we'll need a short term rental (nothing much more than a few months) while we find the place ofr us!

Any sites or companies that people know?

hi,
i'm in ottawa. kijiji.ca is usually the best way to find rentals (similar to craig's list). my sister in law is a realtor and has helped with rentals in the past. if you need a lead for an agent, send me a PM. Otherwise, you can call local real estate companies for rental agents. Keller williams, re/max, royal lepage are some of the bigger ones. the landlord pays their fee, so they shouldn't be charging you anything.

Not sure about Ottawa but I came to BC early March. What I did was to rent Airbnb for the month of March and diligently checking Craigslist for rentals. found a one year rental within 2 weeks of arrival.

We've found a sublet from April 6th until May 1st so that should help get our feet on the ground and go from there. Try and find a short term rental from May 1st then for the summer as we hope to buy something then. Don't want to get locked into a 1 year contract unless we absolutely have to!

I'll be moving to Ottawa in July, and am wondering if there would be any issues getting a lease without credit history and a job when looking for a place through Craigslist or Kijiji.
