2) 1 bedroom basement unit around downtown costs $900+
(basement are usually bit outside downtown)
3) Shared rooms (shared kitchen or bathroom) are cheaper options. Room only can be from 500+
4) Basement and/or shared is cheap option because utilities like hydro (50+), wifi (50+) and parking is usually included. So the quality of life is poor (not always since sometimes sharing is fun), but you save not only on rent but also on utilities.
5) For newcomers, please stay around TTC metro or at least 1 bus ride (10mins) to TTC metro. Much easier if you have to look for jobs and other things (this is personal opinion, varies for individuals)
6) Toronto is very expensive, I have lived in 5 different countries, and most expensive so far.
7) Its hard to get a professional job in Toronto. For some its harder than others. So be prepared. Manage your expectations.
