Hi Big dilemma!!!

Australian citizen looking to use working holiday visa in Canada for two years (one year visa then renew/extend) but I'm facing a bit of a challenge.. I have read you can extend your one year work visa. The only issue I will turn 31 a couple months into my first year of working in Canada. (Working Holiday Visa One Year already approved)

As I said it would be great to renew the visa and work a second year. I fear once I have turned 31 my application to renew my one year WH visa would be rejected?

Is this true once 31 no renewing or extensions?
Are their other visa's, non-working holiday visas I could apply for? More geared to professional work?

Any advice suggestions or experience would be hugely helpful!!
Cheers

As per,
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/australia-australie/experience_canada_experience/working_holiday-vacances_travail.aspx
you'll have to be between the ages of 18-30 ( inclusive ) and turning 31 will make you ineligible for the IEC visa.
Maybe try filing for an extension while you're still 30? Would that be an option?

1. No, IECs can't be extended. The OP can only apply for a new IEC 12 weeks before the present work permit expires, which would make him/her over 31.

Australian citizens can stay up two 24 months on one IEC visa, so if the first visa is valid for 12 months ( for whatever reaons, ie expiring passport etc ),
shouldn't he be able to get the full 24 months after getting a new passport for example??

In this case - by "extend" - what I think the OP means is "get a new one". In any case a new IEC is not possible, because he/she will be over 31 when the time comes to apply for it. This is pretty much the reason I went for PR.

Apparently it is indeed possible to extend an IEC in the specific case (which Toby refers to) that the permit was not initially issued for the length authorised by the program. Which in this case is 2 years.

Correct, maybe the OPs IEC visa has been issued for only 12 months based on his age, as it usually should be valid for 24 months.

^ Age doesn't affect the length of the permit (at least not in the case of the Australian program).

For example - if your application is received the day before you turn 31, the application sits in their queue for a while, and they then issue an introduction letter valid for one year, technically you could be 32 when you enter Canada and your two years starts.

I surmise that the OP's permit was shortened for some other reason. If he/she applies to CIC (not to the Australian working holiday program) to extend the permit to the full two years, I don't think this should be affected by his/her current age.
