Hi,

I got my Permanent residency in 2018 and my card is about to expire in 2023.
In past five years I could not move to Canada and fulfil the residency requirements because I was working for a US division of Canadian a Canadian company.
I have been travelling to Canada frequently but just do not meet the full 730 days.
I have following questions:
1. Can I get my PR card renewed without meeting residency obligation as I was supporting a Canadian business in US.
2. In this situation is it better to let the PR card expire and then renew or better apply for renewal 3-4 months before expiration.
3. Do I need to be physically in Canada when I apply my PR card and while it is under processing, or I can apply it while I am in US.

Regards,
H

1. Not in your case. If you had been working in Canada when you got PR and after a certain length of time were transferred to the US branch temporarily then you could count the time towards RO.
2. How many days have you spent in the 5 years since landing?
3. You must be in Canada to apply for the PR card and people living abroad usually have to pick up your card in person if they get approved. Those living abroad who must pick up their card in person go through an interview before being granted their new PR card to verify they still meet their RO. There is no point applying if you don’t meet your RO. Continuing to work in the US was a person choice and isn’t an H&C reason.

1. Depends on the details of why you were assigned wherever you were working.
2. Probably doesn't matter, but you need to figure out #1 ASAP.
3. Yes, you must apply from within Canada. The card cannot be mailed to an address outside of Canada.

Good luck!

For the time to count you must have been transferred temporarily to the US offices. It appears as though they never worked for the employer in Canada after they got PR or were transferred to the US temporarily.

@hssaini31 Did you ever live and work at the Canadian offices? If so when and for how long? What permit were you on? How did you qualify fir PR in Canada? How many days have you spent in Canada in the 5 years since landing as a PR?
