Renewing my passport while EE App. in Progress

Hi,

My Express Entry application is currently in progress and I have a passport that will expire in 2018. I was going to arrange to get a new 10 year passport so that I don't have to try organise one from over in Canada later (if I'm lucky enough to have my PR approved), and I look quite different from 8 years ago! Would I just need to send a Case Specific Enquiry for my application with a scan of my new passport? Would this slow down my application? Please advise.

In my opinion you have lot of time in hand to renew your passport, do that when its about to expire in 2018. Its perfectly normal to get it issued while you are in Canada and get your new passport number updated with IRCC.

Coming to the question around raising CSE and will it cause delay? I have seen applicants mentioning any CSE raised delays the application, I don't have concrete answer to this though.

Overseas consulates can sometimes take much longer to issue new passports compared to the inland process, so I totally can understand brsmith's line of thinking. (I for one am also considering renewing my US visa one year in advance in the US embassy in my home country as it's simply easier and faster to do it here than in a US consulate in Canada.)

Oh, and brsmith, I also renewed my passport in the middle of my PR process and submitted my new passport via CSE for good measure. I got acknowledgment that it had been added to my file 2 weeks later. I doubt this kind of update really factors into processing times, compared to, say, adding a new family member to a PR application.

Thanks for the responses, I decided to go ahead and order my new 10 year passport to save any hassles organizing one from overseas later on. Should be here in a week
