Hi guys

i am going to apply for citizenship in June this year. However my PR Card expires September next year.

now since the processing time may take over a year, i was wondering if I could renew my PR card after i have applied for citizenship or should i do that before i submit my citizenship application form?

i had read somewhere that when you apply for citizenship , you can not renew your PR card, is that true?

how long before expiry date on you PR card can you apply to renew it?

thanks very much

You can apply to renew your PR card as early as 180 days before it expires.

You can apply to renew your PR card after having applied for citizenship. I did that myself and my application was processed.

So I can still renew my PR card while my citizenship application is in process? I was just worried that i might not be able to leave canada if my PR expires and my citizenship is still under process.

I actually did it. My citizenship application was in process and my PR card was expiring. I applied to renew it and actually already got my test and oath before I got the letter that my new PR card was ready and I could come pick it up. I phoned the call centre and told them I didn't need it any more because I was already a citizen and they said they knew but the letter to pick up was still sent out by mistake.
