Renew or not to renew passport before Citizenship application

I have a friend who would like to ask a question regarding renewing passport for citizenship application. Her passport will expire a year after her estimated application date. She is unsure if she will be renewing her passport before filing her citizenship application or to renew her passport after the citizenship application.

She would like to know when will be the most appropriate time to renew her passport. Is it before citizenship application or after citizenship application?
