I was working in Canada under maintained status while waiting for my Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) application to be processed. However, I had to leave Canada due to a family emergency, and as a result, I lost my maintained status. My SIN also expired along with my study permit. My Canadian employer has offered to let me continue working remotely from my home country and to pay me into my Canadian bank account. Before proceeding, I would like to know:
• Are there any legal or immigration issues with performing remote work for a Canadian employer while physically outside Canada and waiting for a PGWP decision with expired SIN?
• Could this impact my PGWP application or future immigration status?
• Are there any tax, employment, or compliance considerations I should be aware of?
Any guidance or official references would be appreciated.

I'm a factual resident of Canada for tax purposes.

1. You are not working in Canada anymore so no issues. You don't lose maintained status if you applied for PGWP. You can return if you have a valid TRV and still work.
2. No.
3. You are not even working in Canada anymore so pay taxes on your work.
