Regarding duration of canada visitor visa given

I applied for canada visitor visa from India with my family and we were 4 members.We hopefully got the visa but we all got just of 1 year duration.Our passports also were going to expire after 10 years.Can anybody please tell me what would be the reason for giving short duration visas?

It depends on the assessment made by the visa officer...... based on factors such as your strong ties to India, whether you need to visit Canada in the future or not, the purpose of your current visit, if your immediate family in Canada are PR/citizens, etc
