HI Everyone,

I worked for 3 weeks in Contract full time as Quality Assurance Tester in Toronto. Currently I am working as Test Specialist for IBM Canada as Permanent Full time. I started my IBM Job in April 04, 2016 and will complete my 1 year in IBM on April 03, 2017 but my work permit will expire on April 13, 2017. Can I apply under experience class by before April 03, 2017 as I have 3 weeks of Contract job experience as well. Does it need to be with one employer and it should be continuous? I don't have too much time between April 03 and April 13 to apply for pr. How much time before can we apply by considering that as 1 year. Any help will be really appreciable?

thanks

Hi there,

You should only apply when you have finished your one full year of employment. You can not apply in advanced in hopes that they count your future experience towards your application.
No, it can be with different employers, different companies and different titles. And no it is not mandatory for your experience to be continuous as long as you fulfill your experience within the last 3 years.

Best of luck,

Thanks for your response. So it means I'll be eligible after completing 11 months with my current employer as I also have 3 weeks previous employer experience.

well of course 11 months and 3 weeks is not technically a year you need to have the full 12 months before you can apply and many people add a small buffer to be sure . Also not wanting to be negative but IBM is still subject to a lot of employee resource actions and the fact that in reality you have a temporary work status anything could happen in next 8/9 months. Good luck anyway.

11 months and 3 weeks is not 1 year. Use common sense.

Hi

My friend has two & Half year of FSW work exp from home back home country.
She came to Canada in 2015 FEB as an international student but because of some reason she need to drop her first semester and change the college.
During that time she worked full time for 6 months.
Can she shows that 6 month exp in her FSW work exp ?

Did your friend have a work permit when she dropped out? If not she can not declare those 6 months. Anytime working during your studies, meaning when you were on a student visa will not be counted towards the experience.

Working on SIN doesn't mean anything, don't confuse yourself! Did she have a full-time work permit? You can not have multiple permits you know! You are either a student or a foreign worker. If you are a student then working hours during the time that you have been a student will not be counted towards your experience. If you are a foreign work permit holder / post graduate working person then the time will be counted.

No. First of all, no work experience will count while in Canada on a study permit. Secondly, the work experience was unauthorized. Students are authorized to work (20 hrs per week during session) only as long as they meet the terms of their study permit - they cannot drop out and work.

just to confirm that from the time your friend dropped out to the time she started at a new institution she should not have worked as she was not at that time in full time study or on a recess as per the terms of the study permit so work during that time would be considered illegal. if it is ever discovered your friend worked not being enrolled in active full time study or in a recess but having dropped out there could be serious immigration consequences even exclusion as a possibility so for sure do not even try claiming the 6 months.

Also a polite mention it is not good practice to hijack someones thread with some discussion that takes the OPs post off at a tangent.
