Hi ,
I was a minor when we got PR in canada . after few month stay my parents decided to come back to our home country because of lack of jobs .
Now I am 18 . I want to go back to canada but my PR card has expired last year .
A friend told me that if I apply at the Canadian embassy for renewal of my PR statue I am sure to get it bcz I was a minor when taken out of canada and thus it wasn't my desicion .
Can anyone confirm this info ? is it written anywhere in the Canadia immigration law ?

As far as I know, there are no exceptions to PR residency requirements for minors, that is unless one of your parents is a Canadian citizen and you were accompanying your parent outside Canada or your parent is a PR and has been transferred out of Canada by a Canadian employer.

Parents make all kind of decisions for their kids all the time. For example, it was your parents decision to apply for your PR in the first place. You got it because of them and you lost it because of them.

Still, you can try it with the embassy. Never know.

Actually the OP has a pretty good chance of retaining his PR as he is 18 and he was under his parents control when they left Canada. He should contact the nearest CHC/CIC office. This only works if you apply to return to Canada at the first opportunity as an adult.

In that case I stand corrected. I hope he gets it.

I would have never guessed too. Thats a pretty kewl rule by Canada.

Thats good option. So this hold good for any minor PR and they can come back at any age ?

who knows, they may change the rules in the future.

Take a look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op10-eng.pdf (especially pages 21 and 28).

As soon as possible after the age of 18/19 depending on the age of majority. If you leave it past 22 the chances get slimmer and slimmer.
