My husband was just refused this week :'(. The officer indicated that he married me to come to Canada!! I am so furious, as if she can read people's minds to know who married to come to Canada! I am appealing this. By the way our visa office is in accra, ghana, which has a high rate of refusals. Not sure if they even have qualified officers working there...

So sorry to hear this Livin....what is going on at the accra office!!! I though u said interview went great! thats just ridiculous! U must appeal! why would the think that.

Yes, interview went well, she even told him to expect a call to bring his passport-she basically lied to him!
Accra has a reputation for refusing people. They just like to give our people a hard time...
Most of the people i know that sponsored their spouses from Accra were refused the first time and appealed and win the appeal...that's just how it is. They must not like our people...

I don't understand. I'm also on ODSP, but was told once my husband had implied status, my ODSP goes UP. (Was told this by ODSP not CIC)... So how that says you won't be able to support him while waiting for PR I have NO idea. That's just ridiculous! Good luck with your appeal, praying for you!!!

ODSP does not make you ineligible On it's own but once the sponsor is on ODSP the VO would like to see how they are going to support a family of two once an applicant lands here. So next step is to check English proficiency and education level of both sponsor and applicant which becomes the determining factor then as it affects your ability to engulf the Canadian system and to find a quality job.

I understand that. I don't think myself or my husband will have any issues. I'm a college graduate and I work three jobs, one of which is in the local school board. My husband has a GED and he's pretty easygoing as to where he works. And his English is perfect, and is learning ASL :)

Sorry for the hijacking haha. But still praying for OP!!

Does the interview request letter mention why she is being asked for an interview, or what kind of documentation does it ask her to bring? Your wife may have been convoked to an interview because of Section A39 concerns, in light of your circumstances. She should be prepared to answer questions on how she plans to become self-sufficient when she comes to Canada. Especially be concerned if she does not speak English or French, and has limited/no work experience. If she has educational and professional qualifications, tell her to bring along proof of these to the interview, even if the interview letter does not request them.

A lot of documents, such as, T4,T1,Marriage license, and her passport.as far as education, both of us have Bachelor degree, sure she speaks English fluently and have work experience. Not Canadian experience, haha

thats my story for now.

thanks

hey there
I sponsored my wife on jan 2014 i recieved odsp on feb 2014 i was denied sponsorship because of the 1 month dfference I Mailed CIC and told them actually i was disabled from 2011 as stated on my disability tax credit. While on social assistance it was reason of disability while waiting to apply for ODSp my doc has been signing limited participation medical form which stated my disability although not on ODSP officially . CIC called ODSP and they said it backdates to FEB when i applied on odsp, the sponsorship application was in JAN so that one month difference and they denied me. I find it unreasonable they have done this especially if the CRA Disability tax credit dates back too 2011. THey are causing me alot of pain. So i guess i have to re apply? i went to another lawyer he wanted 5000 to appeal. That isn't fair since I am disabled Why do i have to pay 5000 for a 1 month difference . So i guess i have to apply again? or would a letter from an MP help me?

You should reapply. Appealing will be long and expensive with no guarantee of success. It doesn't matter why you were on social assistance. The rules are black and white and you cannot qualify as a sponsor while you are on social assistance. You should have waited one more month until you were on ODSP before you applied. An MP letter won't help - MPs can't change decisions made by CIC.
