What are the main reasons for refusal of the PR?
I am probably going to apply inland, through my Canadian wife of 5.5years. Longer I know but because i am applying for rehabilitation, but returning from interview could be dodgy until the rehab is complete.

As there is no appeal with the inland,

Does anybody know the main reasons for denial of the PR?

As I am applying inland, I can apply for a work permit too, which will help the time go quick, but do I get OHIP, even if I don't have the PR yet?, I will be working with that, so by paying tax, will I get medical coverage?

I hate to crush your plans of working during applying inland but you don't get a work permit DURING the wait. You can apply for one and then after waiting 8-9 months if you are approved you will be given the work permit. And I am not sure but I believe after getting the work permit you are eligible to go ahead and apply for OHIP but you will not be eligible to receive it for 3 months after you apply.

I cannot help you with much else unfortunately. I hope you find the answers you are searching for.

Is that 8-9 month wait, the wait to be applied for the PR? or when does that time start?

It's an 8-9 month wait from the time the application is submitted. If they give you first stage approval you will then recieve an open work permit, be sure to include the application with the PR application as well.

Have you consulted a lawyer in regards to submitting the rehabilitation. I was under the impression it needed to be applied for before the PR app?

The 8-9 month wait is the time until you hear as to if your sponsorship application has been accepted and you move on to the next step for approval of permanent residence which can take up to 24 more months. Below I have listed the requirement to receive OHIP in Ontario. As you will be a visitor up until the time you are granted permanent residency, you will not qualify. Please also note you will not receive OHIP until 3 months after you are granted Permanent Residency.

Eligibility
Ontario residents are eligible for provincially funded health coverage (OHIP). Generally, to be eligible for Ontario health coverage you must :

•be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or among one of the newcomer to Canada groups who are eligible for OHIP as set out in Ontario’s Health Insurance Act (non visitor) ; and
•be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period; and
•be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province; and
•make your primary place of residence in Ontario.
OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario. The ministry strongly encourages new and returning residents to purchase private health insurance in case you become ill during the OHIP waiting period.

Me too. As an applicant, I would probably want that cleared off the table before applying....

just did a quick check, private health insurance seems cheap here. So thats the OHIP question sorted:
As soon as my wife is approved to sponsor me, I can get a work permit, and take out private insurance.

Does anybody know the type of reasons for refusal? As I said, if i can work for most of the PR process, the only problem is if i get refused, there is no appeal.
The rehab will be included (more than 10yrs ago, so should be straight forward)
Any reason come to mind? We got married Sept '05, 2 kids (1before marriage, 1 after), not arranged, and we knew each other 2years before baby #1

thanks

if you dont submit enough evidence of your relationship the immigration officer will doubt your relationship
so ensure that you dont assume that just because i had 2 kids, i dont need to show anything else to prove its real.
i suggest you ensure you have pictures of dating, wedding, vacations, children, parties, family gatherings, blah blah and birth certificates of kids, shared bank accounts etc plus phone calls or emails that you send to each other. Scrape all that you have. Too much evidence is better than too little.

Ya, I will be including all that.
