References from Friends in Canada

Once one has received the ITA and is preparing the application, would there be any benefit at all in including references from close friends who are Canadian citizens? Sort of like an unofficial sponsorship(?).

Please let me know if you think such a thing would be of benefit in attaining PR approval.

Zero benefit. Only give CIC the documents that are required. Don't include extra stuff that isn't needed and might confuse them.
