References and Proof of Income when Renting for First Time

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has faced these same issues. This might be the first time (for real, or at least in a very long time) that you are renting from a landlord. And as a new immigrant who just landed and still looking for a job (or waiting for one to start), you can't really show any proof of income.

How would you deal/have you dealt with a landlord who are asking for these? Thank you.

Show money in bank accounts and/or offer extra upfront money besides first and last month rent.

Please explain your situation to your landlord, tell him that you are a new landed immigrant, you have applied for jobs and waiting for responses and hopefully you will get job soon, tell him that you can provide the Bank Statement for satisfaction. If you have someone, friend or family members in Canada, provide their contact details and you can ask them to sign the Rental contract as guarantor if required. Hope it will help.

If you are new immigrant and don't have Credit History for Renting a house, take help of your Family or Friend and ask them to sign as Guarantor.
