Hello all,

I shall be applying for immigration under Canadian Experience class shortly. While going through the document checklist I came across one of the requirements:
"original and up-to-date letters of reference from your past and current employers for the past 3 years"
Are these letters required for full-time work experience or also for co-op experience? I'd imagine it would be for full time only, but I couldnt find any evidence of that, so I am worried that I'll have to collect letters of reference from my co-op employers as well.

Thanks,

pk

It is true that your coop experience will not "count" towards the canadian experience requirement. But I think you still need the letters of employment from them as part of your background documents.

what is the maximum age of reference letters that can be used in my application?

There's no expiration date like with PCCs. But instructions say "recent" and they are supposed to have specific details, business card etc. I would interpret them roughly the same, within 3 months of the date of application; probably OK up to 6 months. In the case of your co-op letters, if for some reason you cannot get new ones, send the old ones with a letter explaining why you cannot get new ones.
