I'd wait until you are back and those extra 20 days. Personal opinion only.
Thanks for your advice. I had decided earlier to apply with a buffer of least 30 days but this unplanned travel is making me think twice of that decision. I want to avoid another stay outside Canada before applying hence could go with only 10 days buffer.

Your decision. I think it's better to apply when you are in Canada and not departing the next day. I especially would avoid doing that if there is a chance you will remain abroad longer than a few weeks.

Hello everyone, I finally submitted my citizenship application today with a buffer of 32 days. Thank you to everyone on highlighting the importance of a buffer of least one month.

I'll be interested in hearing how your case goes, a family member will submit in the new year and we're considering how much buffer for their case.

Travel is quite frequent - 2/3 times a month due to work, although some periods without travel - but short trips, resulting in only one day absence a trip, usually. Only occasional longer trips, like a week or so at a time. That said, quite confident that trips are being tracked and recorded properly (at our end).

BTW in your case above - I was more concerned about the optics of applying and then leaving on a trip for a month right away. I can't say whether my concern is warranted.

Hi @armoured, I forgot to update that my India trip got cancelled hence I was saved from loosing more Inside Canada days. I had got Canada Entry dates using ATIP request and used that to tally my own physical presence calculation before submitting the application.

Yes. I just mean that I don't think the 30 days is anything magic, and that part of the context of your case as previously stated - applying before leaving for a longer trip - was what fed into my recommendation to wait until 30 days. I think in a lot of cases less than that is fine (allowing of course for other aspects).

At any rate 30+ days as you've done won't hurt.

FYI I applied for Citizenship July 5, 2024 and Oath Ceremony February 26, 2025. (Delayed 2 months as IRCC wrongly asked for a Police Cert. - for before my first residence day - when not required so back n forth as I explained their error).

I applied with 13 days buffer on the 1095.

I did submit detailed spreadsheets incl. every day (16 separate vacation trips totalling six months) I spent out of Canada during my residence qualification period.

Personal experience i applied at 1096 and they had issue with my days cause their system updated all my entry and exits on the following day

Thankfully I had proof of all my entry and exits as evidence

I suggest add 2 days per every day of travel in and out

How did you prove your dates? Tickets?

Im stuck on PP for months now. They never asked for anything.

How long did it take for you between language completion and physical presence completion? And when did they ask you for travel proof?

I also applied with 1096 days and trying to gauge timelines.

Thanks in advance!
