My fiance works for the electrical Union in Canada and receives unemployment checks in between his jobs. How will this influence us when applying for family sponsorship?

Thank you!

Aren't unemployment checks provided by the government though?

Thank you for the reply.

An employee pays into EI while they work, and then gets it back when they are unemployed. It is not social assistance because the government administers it, rather it's a form of insurance, hence the name "employment insurance".

yes they do come from the government but the sponsorship process prohibits one from receiving social assistancwe for reasons other than disability unemployment are benefits that the workers paid into that they are now collecting welfare is not it is what we working ppl call free money

Awesome!

This is very good news. Thank you.
