Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing great.

I got admitted in Humber College for Marketing Management program for Sep 2019 intake but my visa was refused and the reason that I was provided was -

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

I graduated back in 2015 and since then I first worked in an MNC and then, later on, started working as a freelance marketing consultant. I attached my work certificates, income statements, income tax returns, IELTS certificate (7.5 overall), academic mark sheets (No backlogs ever).

GCMS notes have got the following reason for refusal -

Marketing Management made perfect sense after BBA as BBA was a mixed bag of different business related subjects like HR/Marketing/Accountancy/Supply Chain etc, but Marketing Management would have pushed me further into a more focussed career path of marketing. Anyway, I changed my course and now am admitted in Global Business Management and its a 2 year course.

How should I approach my application? Could really use some help from the experts.

Given that you were working at a MNC in what I assume was the marketing department and then left to become a freelance marketing consultant shows that you have a good grasp of marketing so additional training will not lead to huge advances in your career. It will cost a very large amount of money which wouldn’t make sense if you have a good marketing consulting job.

Think you will still struggle to get approved with a global business management diploma. How will the degree lead to advances in you Marketing career. If you were able to leave a MNC to set up your own consulting group your business must be going well. If your business is going well it is a strange thing to leave the country for 2 years and leave your freelance business

Hi, thanks for responding. I was not working in the marketing profile but was working in finance profile.

The reason for choosing Global Business Management is very simple. Global Business Management provides an in-depth understanding of business management and would help me appear as a suitable candidate for better companies at higher managerial roles directly. I do not want to keep working as a solo freelance marketer for my whole life and would like to get some more experience in a prestigious organisation and then open my own firm. Most of the great MNC's do not just value a graduation degree and ask for a specialised course in management for even allowing candidates for applying for their roles.

Yes, my business is doing fine, but I am working as a freelance consultant with very clients in hand. Pursuing a course in Business Management is also help me understand how can I expand my business in the future with my management skills if I chose to leave my job and start my career as a marketing consultant again or if I plan to start my own consultancy firm.

What you are describing would really need an MBA. Given that your business is going well you’d have to convince IRCC why it would be a good idea to study abroad and not do an MBA part-time in your home country while you run your business. You’ll have to wait and see what happens. Please post after your get your DM.
