Hi Experts
I had my PR card received in 2011. It is expiring in 2016. Unfortunately due to hardcore family issues I could not go and live in Canada. I think I will not be able to move to Canada until my PR expires.
I will definitely have to reapply. If I do, do I get any advantage of already having a PR Status of Canada?
Thanks

Hi

You will have a really hard time to convince CIC to renew your PR.
Your last chance is to enter Canada (hoping you won't be questionned in the Entry point about your absence).
In case things go smooth, your only way is to stay there for 2 years WITHoUT leaving Canada for a single day,
then you reapply from within Canada and wait for 6 months or so to get your PR renewed.
No other alternatives, believe me.
it's an advice from an experienced guy.

Good luck

No - no advantages. Your application will be treated the same as any other.

I have the same situation.
So Scylla, does it mean that having PR status in the past will also not hurt my new application?
My new application will be treated as fresh and having PR status in the past and not going to Canada will not affect my new application negatively?
Kiwi; I am not applying to renew my old PR. I want to apply for a NEW PR
