im going on a vocation tomorrow, then I realize I haven't receive my PR card. I checked my PR card status before and its

Your request for a permanent resident card was approved on November 3, 2013. Your Permanent resident card will be mailed to you or if quality assurance is required, made available for you to pick up at a CIC office.


I don't think I have received any mail asking me to pick it up. should I still go on the vocation since the card its approved, then ask someone to pick it up for me then mail it to me?

If you are asked to pick it up, nobody else can do it for you. You must come in person. If you are visa exempt, you can return to Canada with your passport and show your expired card at the immigration desk. If you are not visa exempt, you can apply for a PR travel document at a Canadian embassy.

how long does it take to get travel document at a canadian embassy, and what if the country im traveling to doesn't have a canadian embassy?

I have heard in some embassies it takes as little as 1 day and in others as a rule, several weeks. If the country you are travelling to doesn't have an embassy, you should apply through the embassy that is responsible for that country. The application forms are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp and it gives a link to find the visa office or embassy you should send your application too.

An alternative would be if you have a US visa or are visa exempt to the US or can get a US visa, you could travel to the US and enter Canada again by land.

If you are not visa exempt to Canada, you will have a hard time finding an airline or other commercial carrier that will take you to Canada without a valid visa, valid PR card or a travel document. However, if you find yourself in the US, nothing would be stopping you from entering by land in a private or rented car or on foot.
