My main concern is if I'll be allowed back into Canada after having spent the 6 months already here. I don't want to do anything illegal because eventually I want to become a PR here. But if I leave in June ...I don't want to be denied entry back into Canada until 6 more months

Thanks everyone for your knowledge!

Returning to Canada is by no means illegal. At the same time, there is unfortunately nothing you can do to guarantee that you will be allowed back into Canada. Chances are high you will. But there's always a chance of refusal no matter how small (the whole "visiting is a priviledge, not a right" bit). If you can show you still have strong ties to the US if challenged, make sure you have proof that demonstrates this.

What are some examples of proof that might be accepted?

Usually they are things like: property ownership, rental agreement, proof of employment, school enrollment.

Just to be clear, hopefully you won't need to show any proof and you shouldn't immediately show your proof to immigration. Proof is good to have with you in case the officer starts questioning how much time you are spending in Canada and is looking like he/she might refuse you entry.

Alright, so even something like a current utility bill in my name would work. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get through without the hassle though lol

Sure - better than nothing.

And don't pack like you're moving (I think this was already mentioned earlier in this thread).

Thank you.

Could I do this:

Apply for an extension during my fifth month and (hopefully) get approved, then if I left for the US (ie. US family emergency) .. since I already had the extension .. would that make my re-entry back into Canada any more hassle free?

Or does leaving Canada after being approved a visitors extension terminate so to speak?

Thanks again!

Leaving while an extension is in progress technically voids the extension.

However, you still may get it.

But that won't guarantee re-entry into Canada either.

Hello. I cannot post my own topic, but it relates to this one. I realize that this was posted last year. I know that immigration Canadian laws change all the time, does the reset of 6 months here apply still in 2014 today? Thanks
