Re-entry to Canada with study permit only, after all classes are done

Hi everyone,

I am an international student studying in University of Saskatchewan. I will finishing up all my required classes at the end of this year. My last final exam is December 15th 2017. Also, I got a job offer from a Canadian employer and my employment will start on January 9th 2017.

I would like to take a short vocation and travel outside of Canada in December and re-entry to Canada on January 3rd 2017. Can I still re-entry to Canada at this point?

Both of my student visa and study permit expire on July 31 2017. And I don't think I will be able to apply for post graduation work permit during the Christmas as university will be closed and I would not be able to order my final transcript and degree confirmation to apply for work permit.

SO, can I re-entry to Canada with study permit only, after all classes are done？

Just for clarification when you plan to start work January 9th what status do you believe you will have given you posted that your final exam will be December 15th so you finish full time education then or are you assuming that happens when you formally graduate at which point you can apply for a PGWP ?

Hi,

When I start to work on January 9th I think I will be on implied status. I will apply for PGWP as soon as I get all required application documents.

As regarding the final exam and graduation, I heard once all my final grades are available, I will be determined as a graduate. Since my last final exam is done on December 15th 2016, all my final grades should be available before the university is closed for Christmas. However I would still need certificate of completion to apply for PGWP and I assume I will get that after university reopens after Christmas.

I believe I would not have any problems to stay in Canada by holding study permit only and before PGWP gets on my hand. However, what could happen if I travel outside of Canada for a short period time and re-entry by holding study permit and student visa only?
