Hello all
Just heard that if someone soft-landed and left for three years plus and then re-entered with 1 year and 9 months only remaining, that would be find and would not be reported or prevented from entering Canada

Any experience like that?

Thanks a lot !

A PR is always entitled to enter Canada but whether anyone gets reported or not at the border can just be down to luck so even if someone says they succeeded does not of course necessarily mean same could happen for anyone else. Not meeting the RO which is a pretty generous timeline in first instance will always carry a risk if leaving the country for an extended period.

Then again hopefully you already are aware of the risks.

Having a valid PR on hand technically ensures a person's entry into Canada. However, the risk is being reported at the border by CBSA. If you are lucky and pass the check, you have to remain in Canada 2 years straight for which 3 months you will have an expired PR card in order to apply for PR card renewal. If you got caught by CBSA, be prepared for a long headache to come.

You need to have 730+ in the first five years after landing to avoid being reported at entry. With 1 year 9 months remaining, the risk is pretty significant. It would be hit or miss if they aren’t reported.

Again to second the other members who have replied, not sure who told you it will be 'fine,' but there's always a risk of being reported and then having to go through and justify why you're late. Don't take it as face value what others tell you....good luck!
