I'm Cdn and have married a US woman. She is currently visiting me in Canada and we married here. I am getting my docs in order for applying to sponser her as my spouse. I was late filing my last tax return. less than a month ago. I didn't need to pay any taxes! I still haven't received my Notice of Assessment in the mail. In the list of docments related to the financial assessment of the sposership application, it states that I need a computer printout of my last notice of assessment and my T4 slip. I'm not sure what is meant by "a computer print out". Is this different from the Notice of Assessment you receive in the mail from the CRA and copies of T4 slips you get from your employer. I'm assuming they haven't finished assessing my income tax that I filed so do I call them to get this printout. Will this make them hurry up? Thanks.

If you didn't need to pay any taxes then filing your tax return late wouldn't create any issue. Your tax preparer most likely filed it electronically. The CRA should send you out a mail giving you a check for GST/HST credit. It takes about a month. It shows that they have processed your tax return. The Assessment may takes some more time to come to you. But you can always call Canadian Revenue Agency and speak to a CRA Rep. and ask what document you need.

You can call CRA and request an "Option C Printout" at any time. You will receive it in less than three weeks. That's what we included with our application.

Thank you truesmile! I got the Option C printout and we are still awaiting FBI clearance. once it comes we are set to go.
