Hi guys, I was wondering for spouse sponsorship, i have the two following documents in Chinese and needs to be translated

1) bank transfer receipt proving financial support from sponsor
2) Letter of explanation from applicant to immigration officer

Does it need to be translated by accredited translator/notarized/affidavit?

Can I, as the sponsor, translate it myself?

Thanks!

Hi Braveheart0707,

According to CIC, all documents, which are not in English or French, must be translated by a certified translator. However, based on my experience, only legal documents (e.g. Birth Certificate, Police Certificate, Marriage Certificate, etc) are required a notarized translation. For other documents (i.e. your proof of relationship, like letters, postcards, etc), you can translate by yourself. It would be tons of money if you have hundred of letters or postcards need to be translated. We have done the same thing for our application and everything is fine with that.

With that said, however, since you have only two documents, I suggest you with the safe way, go with the notarized translation.

Hope that would help you.
