Questions for visiting Canada - Nigerian Passport issue

I have a friend who live in Ethiopia, he is from Nigeria. He recently had his Nigerian passport expire and traveled to His home to renew which cost him quite a bit of money. This was in 2021. He went to renew his passport and was issues a new passport which is not his real name, the essentially really messed up and would not fix it. Apparently the guy who made the mistake it was his first day on the job and he also go fired over it, but they would not fix this mistake. My friend cried for quite a while over this, crushing his dream for coming to Canada. I guess Nigeria is very corrupt and this is common type of thing that happens. The process to fix this is very difficult in Nigeria.

Here is the situation, I have been helping his financially and we have a wonderful friend ship, iI have spoken to him and his whole family both on the phone and video chats, he would like to some to Canada and then eventually try and get his wife and children to immigrate to Canada Later. I would like to have him visit and we have been looking into the paper work and have received some first hand advice from others. It would take a long time to fix his passport issue in Nigeria, not to mention it took 2 months to get this process finished in Nigeria. I supported his trip and his 2 month stay. I have been sending him money through Western Union to his real name, I need to show the Canadian Government I supported him but sending money to his real name does support the fact he is applying using his passport name, I am told when he arrives in Canada he can fix his name and passport very easily when in Canada but i don't want to lie on his application for entry.

What should we do? Any help would greatly appreciated

I would like to just tell the whole story and see if there will be sympathy for him, or will it just cause issue and potentially block him for visiting for 6 months. He has a job in Ethiopia and is educated, his father was a Doctor and has strong Christian values. He has some money to come but I will take responsibility for him.

He should not apply to visit Canada using the current passport he has. He cannot travel to Canada on a passport that has someone else's name. He will also be lying in his TRV application if he applies with his current passport. He will need to provide other documents in the TRV application along with his passport including evidence of employment, property ownership, proof of funds to support his trip to Canada. How is he planning on doing this? Is he planning on faking all of these documents to show the wrong name? This is serious misrepresentation. If he does this, he'll be at high risk of a five year ban from Canada (not a 6 month ban, a 5 year ban - misrepresentation bans are 5 years).

He needs to get his passport fixed before he applies to come to Canada. This needs to be done before he comes to Canada and before he submits the TRV application. There is no other option.

There will be no sympathy or understanding if he uses a fake identity to try to apply for a TRV to Canada. Fix the passport.
