Hello! my apologies if this is a little discordant. i am panicking some. The united states government as recently declared all "trans ideologies" as being part and parcel with domestic terrorism. as such myself and a small group of others are starting to look into seeking asylum in places, as canada is the closest to most of us i've decided to ask the question here. Do trans people currently count for Asylum or would we need to wait for some sort of litigation? Thank you so much for your time ya'll :)

It will be very difficult if not impossible to get asylum in Canada as a trans person. You will need to show, for example, that you have moved to other regions of the US that are more liberal and have specific examples of how you were personally discriminated against. The Canadian government will try very hard not to set a precedent that trans people from the US can secure asylum in Canada. Would speak to an immigration lawyer in Canada. Claiming asylum anywhere has longterm consequences when it comes to travelling and securing temporary permits (study or work permits) to many countries so should only be explored as a very last option. Trying to secure a work permit to another country is probably your best option if you want to leave the US for the next few years.
