Hi there, I'm filling out my application to sponser my common-law partner, and i'm stuck on a couple of questions.

the first is question 3. your net income for the 12 month period preceding your application.

it's 2013, so does this mean my net income for 2012, or for the past 12 months in this year?

then i'm stuck on questions 4-7. it asks for info on current and previous undertakings, is the current undertaking is me sponsoring my common law partner? and there are no previous undertakings, so does that make all of question 5 n/a where is asks for information about persons included in undertakings in effect or not yet in effect?

some of the ways things are worded in the application make it kind of confusing, so if anyone can help that would be great :)

They are asking about the 12 months PRECEDING the application so I would only assume it means the previous 12 month period from now. So Nov 12 to Nov 13. You will have to include you last Option C printout as well but I believe it is asking about the 12 months immediately preceding this application. There are no current or previous undertakings. You do not include the one you are applying for now.

This is the information I used when I did my application so I do believe it is correct information.

I agree with Alurra71.

does it want the actual numbers of my net income or just an estimate? how I am supposed to know my exact net income before the end of the year?

What my husband did, is take his last 12 pay stubs and add up the amount there. I'm sure you have your last 12 pay stubs, that's all you need.

You must have a general idea of how much you make, pre taxes. If you are salary it's easier, but if you are hourly, then a touch more difficult but not much. Multiply your hourly rate by number of hours you USUALLY work in week. Multiply that by 52. Even if you are not paid weekly, this should work for you. It doesn't have to be EXACT I don't think, but It can't be thousands and thousands off either I would think.

ok thanks, that's helpful, I can figure that out close enough I think, but again about the undertakings, i'm still kind of confused, what does undertakings actually mean? do I include myself in that still? or is that just something else that isn't applicable to someone sponsoring for the first time?

That is only applicable if you have previously sponsored someone and are still legally obliged to care for them. I am assuming that you have never sponsored someone else here so it does not apply to you.

Assuming you have never sponsored anyone else and have no children, answers are

4) 1
5a) 1
5bi) 0
5bii) 0
5biii) 0
5biv) 0
6a) 0
6b) 0
7) 2

Just a little correction. Net income = income after all taxes and deduction. Easiest is to add up your pay stubs, if you do not have these available take last one and multiply by the pay periods (in Canada, either weekly (52), bi-weekly (26) semi-monthly (24))

OR look at the deposits in your bank account and add those up.

thank you, this is the answer I was looking for, that is what I thought it was, but it got kind of confusing, so myself and my current common law partner are included in this?

Yes, just as I listed.
