SSDI payments will be stopped if you move to a different country. Payments will be stopped once you are outside of the US for more than 30 days. See manual.I have SSDI and 100% total and permanent VA disability. I am wondering were if I was to move my family and I to Canada would we be losing our income?
Are you already PRs or citizens of Canada? If not, how were you planning to move to Canada? That is an important consideration as well.I have SSDI and 100% total and permanent VA disability. I am wondering were if I was to move my family and I to Canada would we be losing our income?
So do you have work permit with approved job offer with LMIA or PR? Are you coming to visit? You cannot just move to Canada. We live in Texas, and I was thinking of just up and moving, but I am worried that we will lose income if we do so. Thank you for replying.
That's not good, I cant just up and move, oh well thank you for your replySo do you have work permit with approved job offer with LMIA or PR? Are you coming to visit? You cannot just move to Canada.
No you cannot just move to a different country without the proper work permit. You can visit Canada up to 6 months. That's not good, I cant just up and move, oh well thank you for your reply
You can't just pack up and move here. That's not allowed. You would need to qualify to immigrate through one of Canada's economic immigration programs like Express Entry. We live in Texas, and I was thinking of just up and moving, but I am worried that we will lose income if we do so. If you want to assess your chances of being selected for immigration, you can complete the Express Entry calculator below. You want to have a score of 480+ to have a decent chance of being selected. Points are awarded based on factors such as age, language abilities, level of education, and skilled work experience. Note that you will also need to show that you have sufficient bank savings to support your settlement here (there is a minimum amount you will need to have in savings based on the size of your family). That's not good, I cant just up and move, oh well thank you for your reply
This is one of the reasons why this particular forum was created back in 2016...right after this entire website crashed following the U.S. presidential election. That's not good, I cant just up and move, oh well thank you for your reply
Because of the Totalization Agreement between The U.S. and Canada, if the OP is a U.S. citizen and has paid into SS for at least 40 quarters (10 years) they would receive payments in Canada:SSDI payments will be stopped if you move to a different country. Payments will be stopped once you are outside of the US for more than 30 days. See manual.
