Hello All!

My apologies if this is not the sppropriat eplce to post this question, please redirect me if so Smiley

I am a USA citizen applying for family class PR with my Canadian citizen spouse sponsoring me. We will be married for less than two years at the time of application, so we will have conditional PR.

I currently have a small face painting business in the USA. I work out of the Seattle area and will be moving to the Vancouver area upon PR approval. I plan to register a business doing the same thing in Canada once there, but could I continue to have my business in the USA and take occasional day or weekend jobs in the states (I'm thinking weekend festivals, big jobs for corporate clients)?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Does anyone have a similar situation or some insight into how this might work?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

As long as you maintain your Canadian residency obligation by physically staying in Canada minimum two years in a given five year period you can visit USA for occasional face painting business. New immigration law will force you to physically stay longer than current two year period. Now the question is you may have to report overseas income to CRA while filing your yearly tax return. Also you may have to maintain your US tax file. Please explore more on tax return part.

........and on the part of US you will have to report your global income(ie from Canada in addition to the US income) for Tax purposes. Unless you are making a great deal of money the hassles may outweigh the benefit
