Hi,

what is GCMS? Is it electronic version of our applications(with all the documents that we submit)
or is it just a system to keep some notes on the status of the application.

When is the best time to request for GCMS updates?

Thanks

GCMS stands for global case management system
Basically it's a big database with our applications and all related documents

When you order GCMS you can choose to have your Case Files - ie the notes and each entry against your record or you can order a copy of your application (without notes so not really useful unless you have a specific reason for them).

I ordered my set 6 months in but really, I should have waited 9-10 months. In fact, I just ordered some.
Some people order them a bit after sending additional docs to CIC (PCC for example) to make sure that their docs have been logged.

If you are in Canada they are free and take 30 days to get to you

Agree with everything lpc said. Really no point in ordering notes until month 9 or 10. The current timeline indicates 10 months to receive MR, which means that there probably wont be much on your notes. Ordered mine 6 months in as well, and nothing on them.

Also as lpc suggested, you can always order a set a little bit after CPP-O confirms attaching additional documents...so you can confirm they have indeed been added.

GCMS notes will summarize your application and provide context to VO's decision. Basically, the rationale behind the decision. But also all the steps in the process, including submission, AOR, attachments, MR, criminality and admissibility. The only part you wont see details on is security, which is handled by CSIS, and because of national security reasons, details are never disclosed.

You can order the notes through ATIP. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp
