Hello everyone,

First, thank you all for the replies on my previous 2 messages, I really appreciate the support of the community! I'm currently compiling my documents to send them off, and had a couple more questions.

First, some background information: I'm being sponsored by my common-law partner who is a born Canadian citizen. We're going through the Spousal Sponsorship program and I'm also applying for an open work permit. I'm currently on visitor status, but before that was working here from March 2017 - March 2018 and was studying here from February 2016 - February 2017.
Me and my common-law partner went and got form IMM5409 signed and administered by a Notary / Comissioner of Oaths. We've got his stamp, signature and all on the form. I was wondering if I need to send the original form that he wax-stamped, or if I can send them a black and white copy of it. I'm only wondering this because the original has a colored stamp (gold stamp with his name, title and province), and the photocopy will have that, but in black and white, of course.

My other question was: How can I extend my stay in Canada? I'm currently on a visitor's visa until early September, and am worried that I might not receive my work permit visa, or PR confirmation (seeing as it's a 12 month wait for in-land PR at the moment) before then. Can I submit a request for extension on my visitor's visa until the decision for either one is made, or am I allowed to stay in the country until a decision is made? (and if so, could someone please provide me a link to an official site that says that? I can't find it. Thank you! :) )

If anyone has any questions, or something is unclear, please let me know! I'd be happy to help!

Thank you all once again!

I don't actually know if you need to send the original, do you need the original ever again? Might be worth it to send it in since you could always get it re done?

Scroll through this thread, @Rob_TO gives the correct answer to your second question here. https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...-board/threads/visitor-visa-extension.243285/

Thanks for the response, ashpash!

I don't know if I would ever need it again, but I read some people say to never send original copies unless the application specifically asks for it and I can't find anywhere where it does.

As for the second question, thanks! I'll probably apply for an extension on my visitor's visa just in case. I hope I won't need it, but a back up is always handy. I'm just wondering, if I apply for my extension, get approved, go to the border, get a new stamp in my passport, will that affect my current application with the OWP / PR-Spouse sponsorship? As the "passport photocopies" I've send in then / this month are outdated as I have a new photocopy with a new stamp. Or am I just thinking too much into it?

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi @parks552 ,
Did you send a copy of it?
Did you also include the proof of cohabitation, such as rental contracts, with OWP? I am wondering whether only a notary public has to check or IRCC will also check them.
