I read that the days outside Canada may be counted towards Canadian permanent residency as long as one is employed by a Canadian employer and has been posted in someplace outside Canada. I am from USA and in order to meet permanent residency obligation, I have to move to Canada soon. However, I am not yet ready to move. Is there a way I can find a Canadian software/tech employer who will be willing to let me work from its USA office ?

I think you answered your question really you would need to land in Canada become a PR start working in Canada for a Canadian company and have that company formally post you overseas in this case the US as in effect a temporary assignment.

Personal view but I think it might be a challenge to persuade immigration about RO if you were unable to show any history of initially establishing residence in Canada, working for a Canadian company before being assigned overseas for that company. Instead of that simply landing not establishing any residence but then returning to the US, working for a Canadian company who might support you working from the US but still having your main residence in the US so basically having PR but no ties to the country other than working remote.

I expect there are plenty of companies around that support remote working as the norm but whether that would help in your scenario persnally seems doubtful but maybe others have a view as well
