Dear Forum Members,

I landed in Calgary with my wife and two children, stayed in Calgary for 1 week and we returned back to the UK last month. We are thinking of leaving our children with their grandparents in Bombay and enrol them in school there. We plan to be in Calgary and stay the required 2 years out of 5 to maintain our PR status. Does the 2 year rule also apply for minor children ? If it applies to them, what are the options available to enable them to return to Canada and enrol in a Canadian university?

I will be very much grateful for your valuable responses.

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes it applies to them, they must reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period.
2. If they don't meet the residency requirement, then you would have to sponsor them. If they turn either 18 or 19 (depending on the new rules in 2014) then you can't.

PMM,

Thanks for your reply.

Is sponsorship of minor children a simple process or are
there likely to be issues similar to those involved in sponsoring
parents?

Regards.
