Hi -

I am a little confused about filling the Checklist form IMM5533.

In Supporting documents for the Principal Applicant section:
For #3, ACCOMPANYING CHILDREN's ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
We don't have a child, so do i still need to answer "No" to the question "I have included children in the application who will receive an immigrant visa at the same time as me"
Do i have to check the box next to #3 (because i answered the question) or since this is not applicable it is better left blank.

For#4 Police Certification and Clearances:
The applicant is over 18 years and no one in the family does military service. Do i have to check the box next to #4 as i answered the questions but not attaching the Police certificates.

Sorry if the questions sound naive, just want to make sure i don't make a mistake. Appreciate any advise.

There is a large tick box to the left of '3. ACCOMPANYING CHILDREN'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION'. Do NOT tick this as it does not apply to you. So you then of course do not have to tick any other boxes in that numbered section.

Tick the big box to the left of '4. POLICE CERTIFICATES.......' etc.

Tick 'Yes' to '....18 years or older'

Tick 'No' to '....military service'

Do not start requesting police certificates until requested to do so by CIC. They will do this shortly after receiving your full and complete application pack.

Thank you so much for your reply

One more question. Regarding the Police certificates. My wife will need to get the Police certificate done from India as well as UK as she stayed there for more than 6 months. Wouldn't it be better if we start the process for getting the police certificate after we dispatch are application rather than waiting for them to give the go ahead. I mean getting the certificates from two countries may take more than a month.
Also, how long is the certificate valid for?

Personally I would wait for two weeks after submission to make sure you have got your pack right and they are not going to reject it as incomplete, then I would start the process of getting police certificates. Takes 3 - 5 week for the UK, no idea about India.

CIC used to consider them as valid for 3 months, then in 2015-16 they extended this to 6 months (probably coz they insisted on them up front in the old pack and their own backlogs were pretty long), but I suspect with the new process they will be back down to 3 months at most.
