Question on AVR process while re-entering from Canada

Hello everyone -

I re-entered the US today using AVR from Canada at a land border in Michigan. I tried to get my new I-94 online, but it says no record found for traveler (however, I'm able to see my arrival record in the arrival/departure history from the same website). I have two questions:

1. do we really get a new I-94 when we re-enter the US on AVR, or is it the same as the one on the H1B approval notice, given that our entry is based on our existing I-94?

2. How many times can we use AVR? For example, I returned to the US after 16 days in Canada. Can I go to Canada at a later date and re-enter the US using AVR after 20 days?
 
I believe last time I faced similar situation. The online record updated few days later to show latest entry.
 
Thank you for your response. How recent was this? Up until June, they used to provide paper I-94 at land borders, but now it mentions that even land border crossings will be issued Electronic I-94s.

Also, did your I-94 number change?
 
It was in January 2021. For land borders, generally they have been keeping same I-94 number. In my case, I specifically requested new I-94 as my H1b was extended and my wife’s H4 for expiring. I received paper I-94 but then electronic I-94 was generated with same I-94 number after about a week.

Would you know if we can use AVR if we are in OWP and not PR holder?
Also I came in F1 Visa and currently on H1 status (no stamping yet) with i140 approved, Am I still eligible for AVR ?

we are planning to do copr validation via land border and return using AVR. can anyone.please help with how to fill the quarantine details in ArriveCan form.

When did u use AVR? Is H1B worker allowed to enter USA and travel restrictions do not apply to H1B?If u can answer these questions I will be grateful to u. Also, if u can share entire experience of broder crossing that would be great

Are u on H1b? Is H1b worker allowed to enter the US via land border?

Yes. they are allowed accompanied by H1. H1 should be inside US or accompanied for H4 to enter. Also they need to have their valid i94.

Why does H4 travel and where is the H1 candidate residing?
H4 can travel outside of US without H1 accompanying. Not sure why are you asking on it. You should explain the full situation, not just a piece of the situation. No one can answer fully.

It was mainly a follow-up question in light of the COVID related restrictions on entering the US from Canada. I called US customs and spoke with the officers and they confirmed that there are no restrictions on H1's and H4's to re-enter the US. There is also no need to do a COVID test.
 
@mortynrick Did your online I94 ever get updated?

I entered through the land border in Washington and had the exact same experience -- online i94 record (same as before), travel history updated.
