Hello everyone! My fiance and I are planning to apply for the express entry program. Currently we are engaged and we will get married in December 2016. We want to apply as a couple so we thought it would be the best to get a common-law documentation. However, we plan to submit our profile in early August. If we get an invitation soon after entering the pool (if before December), we will apply as common-law partners. Then at some point during the application stage (maybe before getting the PR or after), our status will change to married. Do you know if it would be a problem? Any suggestions? I checked this forum and some other sources but couldn't find an answer to my question. Thank you!

It's not a problem. If you meet the criteria for common-law now, go ahead and apply as common-law. If you want, you can include a brief letter of explanation stating your plans to get married. Then when you do, you can simply forward a scan of your marriage certificate.

You can create the profile and entry into pool as common law partner. Once you get married change the same in the profile and if you have recieved ITA by that time and sent in your application then you have to mail CIC about the same with marriage certificate.

Thank you so much jes_ON and alexander_hitch. This was the first time I used this forum but you have been very helpful. I appreciate it! :)
