Hi all,

We sent in our app (inland) about 20 days ago and have since realized that there are a couple of important factual errors in it. I want to withdraw the application to correct it. I'm assuming that it is still probably untouched.

Does anyone know if they will send the whole package back? I'm hoping to just redo the incorrect area and send it back again, rather than having to get another FBI security letter, etc all over again.

We used a lawyer as our representative, but we are going to carry on without him from now on. I'm assuming that since I'm withdrawing the application and submitting a new one, that I don't need to rescind his authorization to act on our behalf?

Are we likely to have any trouble resubmitting the application? I haven't changed my mind about sponsoring my spouse, I just want to make sure that everything is as accurate as possible.

One last questions - I don't see a Fax # for Vegreville. Do I just mail the letter? I'm going to send it ExpressPost, will that suffice?

Thank you,

Hi there,

I am not a lawyer, but my experience with bureaucracies tells me to try to avoid withdrawing sponsorship to avoid having to give lengthy explanations later (the mark on the record could easily generate a bunch of questions for your re-submitted application.

I would call CIC's call center @ 1-888-242-2100 and explain the situation. They may be able to see if you can simply withdraw the application if there's a lot of errors. Alternatively, consider faxing them an updated form.

Also, it sounds like you may be sponsoring someone from the US. If so, are you aware that you could have applied Outland (much faster - you'd likely be done before step 1 is done inland and you would retain right to appeal) and if your spouse is visiting you in Canada you can apply to extend his stay.

When you call the call center, it may help to refer to this page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives-apply-after.asp
While the inland manual links to it, it only seems to have e-mail contacts for Mississauga so the call center may be able to give you Vegreville's both for the updated personal information and for the withdrawal of authorized representative form. Good luck!

You still need to rescind the authorized representative information.
