Question about Visitor Visas

Apologies for the inconvenience, but I was wondering if someone could clarify a situation for me.

Say I have a Study Permit that is expiring soon, but I want to return to Canada to visit -- not as a student, but as a visitor, with my stay crossing the expiry date -- is it possible to apply for and receive a visitor's visa prior to the student visa expiring? Does applying for the Visitor's Visa cancel out the permit?

Thank you for any help provided on this issue! :)

is it possible to apply for and receive a visitor's visa prior to the student visa expiring?
Yes, it is possible.

There is a "grace period" where you can travel freely after your permit expires, usually 1-2 weeks. If your stay is longer than that then you should apply to extend your status as a visitor. This only applies if you are not leaving the country.

Does applying for the Visitor's Visa cancel out the permit?
No.

Thank you for the quick response!

However, to clarify the situation: what if I'm applying for the Visitor's Visa from outside Canada, with an expiring Student Permit on hand? Should I report the expiring Permit?
