Hope CIC is treating everyone well! ;D

My husband's application was received in August, I was accepted as a spousal sponsor in October & we were just sent a passport request. I want to confirm whether or not they want the original passport & not a photocopy. & if it is indeed the original they want, then is it safe to assume we are close to the end of the process?

The request reads as follows:
This is in reference to your application for permanent residence in Canada. In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:

Ø Passport/Travel Document: Valid passport or travel document . The validity period remaining on your current passport will not allow sufficient time for you to complete the immigration process.

Please note:
All documents must be accompanied by English or French translations. When original documents are requested, notarised documents are not acceptable.

The above information/documents must be received in our office within 60 days from the date of this letter. Failure to do so could result in the refusal of your application. Please quote your complete application number on your correspondence and address your correspondence to CPP-Ottawa at the address indicated below.

Thank you for the interest you have shown in Canada.

Clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

They are asking for a new passport as apparently your current one is going to expire before you finish immigration. This isn't a PPR, this is a "Need more information"

A PPR would sound like this (This is from my husband's PPR email)

Passport

requirements

•We require an original VALID passport for yourself and every accompanying family member.

•Passports for all accompanying family members must be submitted together.

•There must be at least one blank page in your passport(s).

If there are children included in your passport, there must be blank pages for their visas as well.

•The immigrant visa that is to be placed in your passport(s) will show an expiry date. You may enter Canada anytime before the expiry date shown on the visa. Please note this date cannot be extended. If you fail to enter Canada before this date, you will be required to reapply and submit a new application and processing fee.

•Please note: Immigrant visas cannot be placed in Diplomatic, Official or Military passports.

I figured we had a ways to go, but any contact from CIC is worth getting excited about in my books. ha 8)

If they just want to verify his citizenship I guess we just send a notarized photocopy of the new passport? & it's not until we get the PPR email that we send the actual passport?

Thanks for the response & congrats on your huband's PPR!! :D

A photocopy will do. I think they are trying to find out when the passport expires, hopefully it's not anytime soon! :)
