question about travelling during spousal sponorship in process

I have a question, if spousal sponorship is still in process and we dont know when it will be finalized since its stuck in security stage, can the applicant still travel outside the visa office country and work outside of it or will that slow the process or cause the application to be denied. Please let me know your input.
