Hi there,

I am a US citizen married to a Canadian citizen. During my last entry into Canada I was given a visitor record, which expires later this week (it was only valid for 5 weeks).
However, I have applied for a visitor extension (so I have status in case my app gets rejected) as well, I submitted my PR and OWP (in-canada) a few days after my visitor extension request.
If I have not received a visitor extension by the date of expiry, do I need to leave the country? and how does this affect my PR application? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Your inland spousal sponsorship with OWP application if complete and not returned will be processed regardless on your status......however, the OWP will only be approved if you have a valid status..........OWP is usually approved within 4 months..........spousal sponsorship takes 12 months, could take more or less, its on a case basis.

You have submitted an application for extension of your visitor visa.......you have implied status until a decision is made on the visitor visa extension application.

Temporary resident : Implied status (extending a stay)

Can I leave Canada while IRCC processes my application for permanent residence?
With an inland sponsorship in-process, you are advised not to travel out of Canada......as there is no guarantee of re-entry.......and if for whatever reason you are denied re-entry, your inland sponsorship may be refused.

Hi

No, you don't need to leave. You will have valid Implied Status after your current VR expires.
