Hello all.... On the generic application form to Canada he is listing his national identity document but it asks when it was issued YYYY-MM-DD and when it expires YYYY-MM-DD...but on my husbands document it only shows the year it was issued and hear it expires so it does not show a month or day! Should I just put January 1st and the year for both?? Please help!:)

Which document are you using for your national identity document?

For my husbands national identity document it is his IFE from his country ....

Put NA or 0000 in it.

That will not work as there is validation against the issue date and the expiry date.

You could tick "No" and on a separate piece of paper explain that he has a identity document but it does not have full issue date/expiry date. That way you get the benefit of being able to fill that form in electronically rather than printing and writing in ink. CIC prefers that form filled in electronically as the generated barcode pages are scanned into their system.

I am not familiar with national identity documents, so I never filled in that section.

Thanks to both of you. Just to by another opinion I will ask my one friend who was successful in their application as her husband is from Mexico as well so I am sure she went through the same experience!

We left the expiry date blank because theres nome piled date on his card (his card doesn't expire) they have a copy of his card so I am assuming they will realize this

- I hope they don't send our application back for something so simple. As well as clearly seeing the card has no expiration date
