The rules for sponsoring a US spouse are somewhat different. One difference I'm aware of is that the sponsoring spouse must be making a minimum income to qualify to sponsor (125% of the poverty line or something like that?). If the spouse isn't making enough, they must find a co-sponsor to qualify.

If you want to join a good/active US immigration forum - try the Family Based Green Card section of the following forum:

Good luck!

The sponsor, US citizen sponsoring his/her spouse has to have guaranteed income and you have to present your past income tax forms.
The process is laid out differently than the immigration process in Canada.
I am married to an American citizen and I was sponsored by him for my PR - you should be aware of the tax implications that could affect your spouse even if he becomes a PR in the USA - and he should definitely be aware of them.

My husband moved to the US from Canda 14 years ago in December - except that he moved back last month to Canada and I am moving in a few days to be with him, as a PR.

We did have a different process when he moved here. Scylla is right, there is a minimum income requirement. I was 16 at the time, so I didn't meet it, we eventually found an uncle who was willing to undertake him. Then, our file was 'lost' and we had to refile and at that time my husband was able to sponsor himself, having made more than the amount.

For us, we waited and waited and waited for the interview, and it took from our first filing in May 1998 till August 2003 for him to get his green card. In that time, though, they switched computer systems, or to an actual computer, I forget what and our change of address was not notified to the office they had changed our file to. SO we missed our original interview. The interview was a joke, quite honestly. I spent forever making scrapbook for them to review. They never looked. They asked like 2 questions, and he was approved. He at that time got at 10 year green card, which pretty much unless you commit a felony or leave, that type of thing, is not really more than renewing.

My husband, though has and will never take his citizenship -since he has already moved back to Canada and there for revoked in effect his GC status. My husband has never had an issue with his taxes, Canada does not keep tabs the same way the US does. We Will have extra work, having moved to Canada now, as I'm sure you knew from moving yourself.

Moving here/US was never really our choice. I hope you find where makes you both happy.
