Hello, this is for the Common-Law in family class PR.

I have a question regarding maintaining my status as a visitor. As a visitor I have 6 months to be here legally and I am submitting the application before that time is up which is in a few months. The guidelines say I need to maintain valid status while I wait for processing.

How am I able to do that?

I will be applying for an Open Work Permit as soon as I get my notice from them, but I might not get it until after my status expires. So how may I maintain valid status throughout processing?

Thank you for any help!

You can apply to extend your status as visitor.

I agree with the others.

Previously, simply including the OWP application with an Inland spousal sponsorship application (in the same envelope/package) would have given you what you need...the OWP app would have extended your legal status, but...IRCC recently changed. Now, they only accept applications submitted online; no more mailing of paper applications. Now an OWP cannot be submitted until the applicant receives their AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) from IRCC, which seems to take, for some, a couple of months. How hard would it be for IRCC to automatically reply to the online sponsorship application that's submitted, with an (almost) instant `acknowledgement' thet your application has been received.
