Question about going to Toronto

Hello Folks,

I have some concerns i'll appreciate any suggestions and advice. I already have a canada PR card thorugh alberta immigration nominee program. I did my landing last year at vancouver port of entry and came back to continue my job here in USA . now i am planning to permanently move to canada. I am planning to fly to toronto first since i have a friend who lives there and that would make things easy in the new country. And after that I am ready to move whereever i can find a job. Offcourse Alberta would be my first priority. I am concern would I be questioned why I didnt go to Alberta? will there be any kind of issue when i first go to toronto? please let me know. i guess i should be just fine as i have pr card with me but i am not sure if there is any new rules or any concerns i need to be aware of just i would like to know it. please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As long as you still meet your residency obligations and have a valid PR card, there should be no problem.

Since you managed to land last year without an incident, you are probably ok, but be aware that immigration has recently been cracking down on people who come in through PNP and aren't going to live in their PNP province. Some people have had their PR visa cancelled when trying to land, others have been put under watch for their PNP to check up on them later.

If they take it one step further and start checking up on people who already landed without incident, it is possible that somebody will at some point ask you why you didn't settle in AB. If they feel that you lied on your PNP application when you said you intended to settle in AB, they may try to revoke your PR.

I have heard about a couple of cases of people who had problems. One family that landed in Vancouver although they were PNP nominees from another province actually had their PR visa cancelled when immigration found out that they had bought a house in BC. There was another person here who had applied through Quebec but is currently living in Ontario studying and landed in Ontario and this person has been called for a hearing where I assume they will get another chance to convince immigration they are going to settle in Quebec.
